Hi, I'm Donna Freitas, author of over 20 books, MFA faculty, and writing coach with two decades of experience helping authors get published.

Hey, I'm Amy B. Scher, author of the popular How To Heal Yourself series, and expert in mind-body-spirit healing. I help people break through blocks to become their happiest, healthiest, and most creative selves.

And we are so excited to come together for a restorative weekend in April to bring you our blended approach—including energy therapy exercises and introspective writing tools—to  help you write your way to healing and heal your way to writing.

No experience necessary to join. Whether you are currently working on a book or other project or are just curious about how writing and healing could fit together for you, we're here for it.

Meet us at the glorious White Hart Inn in Salisbury, CT where we'll hunker down, heal, write, and laugh for 2.5 wonderful days. Plus, there will be dinners and drinks! (Lodging reserved separately at discounted rates).

Can't travel? That's why we created FOMO tickets--so you can attend online and not miss a thing. Simply choose a quiet location for our daily sessions, grab your tea and some fuzzy socks, and be ready to write + heal with us.

Retreat Schedule

Each session will be full of healing practices, writing exercises, heartfelt connection, time for questions, and lots of fun. Click each day to see the full schedule.

Meet us online to connect and get ready to have the best time at our retreat! We’ll each get a chance to introduce ourselves, and then together, we’ll set goals + intentions for our time together.

Evening session: Happy Hour + Histories
5-6:30 pm ET

Grab some tea or a cocktail and join us for our opening session, where Amy and Donna will share their unique paths to publishing. In interview format, you’ll learn how each of them first started writing, found confidence to continue even when it was hard, and eventually turned their work into careers. They will each also talk about the relationship between writing and healing in their lives. To close the session, Amy will lead participants through her signature technique sto release old and outdated narratives about ourselves (and our writing journeys) that no longer serve us. It’s time to move forward with more flow and creativity than ever before.

Morning session: Overcoming Narrative Blocks
10am - 12:30 pm ET
The essence of every book, essay, or project, is story. No matter what project you have in your heart, learning how to approach the story is key. In this morning session, we’ll use energy therapy exercises to release blocks holding us back: fear of putting our true selves on the page, doubt and insecurity about our abilities, letting perfectionism cause procrastination, and more. Then, once we are open and ready, we’ll learn exactly how to map out a successful first chapter, as well as how to work through the structure of the rest of our book or essay. Whether you are just starting or well into your project, this session will infuse you with new energy, plus the confidence and skills to get your story on the page in the most effective way.

Afternoon session: Discovering Narrative Opportunities
3 - 5:30 pm ET
We often think of writing for our future readers, but the true opportunity comes when we write for ourselves. Each project is an opportunity not only to tell a story, but to use that story to better our own lives. In this session, we’ll do energy work to release old beliefs and rules like “it’s selfish to write for ourselves,” “writing is a luxury I can’t afford,” “Everything else is more important,” and more. Then, we’ll dive into identifying exactly what we desire, need, or hope to work through as we write—and how to use our writing toward this end. This session will help you not only become a better writer, but a more fulfilled, healed, and joyful human, too.

Morning session: New Beginnings
10-11:30 am ET
Join us for a final morning session before we say goodbye -- until next time! In this session, we’ll focus on creating a new plan for your writer’s life! We’ll help you set yourself up with next steps and a doable schedule so you have your very own blueprint to continue moving through your project—and moving yourself—forward. We’ll close with more energy work, we’ll call in the energy of new beginnings to send everyone off with a full heart, our support, and the tools you need to succeed with your project.

5 - 6pm ET
Meet us for a post retreat follow up to check in, cover questions that have come up since the retreat, and do a little more healing + writing, together.
